Clinic Procedures
At Dawson Chiropractic Clinic, our focus is both preventative care and the treatment of pre-existing conditions. We offer three stages of care for all of our patients—relief, curative and prevention.
Relief
The primary short term (days to weeks) goal of the relief stage of care is to provide the patient with symptomatic relief.
Corrective
During the corrective (weeks to months) stage, the aim is to identify and cure the problems that contributed to the initial pain, and to rehabilitate the damaged tissues. This stage is vital to complete stabilization from the source of the pain.
Preventative
Recovery is often not permanent but requires a life time of management. Once a patient's condition has normalized we recommend that periodic spinal checkups with Dawson Chiropractic become routine. This stage of treatment may also include adjunctive care including therapeutic massage, exercises and stretches.

NUCCA Adjustment (Upper neck adjustment)
A NUCCA Adjustment is one of Dr. Dawson’s specialties. This specific upper cervical technique is taught by the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA), focusing on the relationship between the upper cervical spine (neck), specifically in the occipital atlanto axial joints, and its influence on the central nervous system and brain stem function. This relationship affects every aspect of human function from the feeling sensations in your fingers to regulating hormones, controlling movement, spinal balance, alignment, gait, and providing the ability to see, hear, think and breathe. This technique also helps balance the spinal/pelvic imbalances as well as contracted leg syndrome. For more information please visit the NUCCA website at www.nucca.org.
Conservative adjustments are more gentle and subtle techniques utilized during the session. These techniques may include Arthrostim, SOT, strain counter strain, and other indirect methods.
Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment
Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment is the traditional form of the chiropractic methods. It uses hands on treatment (through high velocity and low amplitude) to manipulate the vertebrae or bones back into place.
Graston Technique uses stainless steel instruments to break up scar tissue and restrictions creating greater mobility of soft tissue. This technique is often the only thing that works on chronic soft tissue conditions, as well as some acute conditions. For more information please visit the Graston Technique website at www.grastontechnique.com.
Ultrasound uses high energy sound waves (above the range we can hear) that are guided into the body by the physio therapist (C.A.), to ease painful joints and muscles by creating deep heat which increases circulation.
E.M.S. is used at Dawson Chiropractic for rehabilitation. It uses electric impulses that are generated by the E.M.S. machine and delivered throughout the body and through electrodes to the muscles. This stimulation relaxes muscle spasm and can prevent muscle atrophy which often occurs following musculoskeletal injuries.
Soft tissue mobilization is a passive treatment used when the areas in the muscle, between the muscle, and between the areas of connective tissue are inflamed and begin the process of creating scar tissue. This can be caused by major or minor traumas or general inflammation due to overuse or overwork in any specific area. This also includes massage, pain neutralization, active release of the muscle and PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation).
Vibratory Massage is moderate to high level vibratory stimulation and percussion style massage.
Trigger Point Therapy applies concentrated pressure to specific taut knotted muscular points that are painful and irritated or often inflamed. This pressure releases the cycle of spasm and helps to relieve and prevent pain from radiating to other parts of the body. Graston Technique is also often used in conjunction with this technique.
P.N.T. concentrates on the soft tissue treatment of Trigger Points and spasms by releasing neurological reflexes to turn off the reaction to the muscle and joint.
The COX Distraction table is used to treat disc bulges to gently stretch and traction the lumbar and thoracic discs and joints. The movement draws fluid into the joint space and disc, which hydrates and nourishes weak discs, spinal joints, and soft tissues while ridding the area of waste products.
Laser Therapy utilizes the healing wavelength of visible red and infrared frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum to help relieve pain, reduce inflammation and promote healing. Unlike other therapies the therapeutic response is cumulative.
Strapp and Functional Taping is the placement of tape to support areas of trauma due to athletic injuries or over use syndrome.
Direct Digital X-Ray is environmentally friendly, reduces exposure to radiation, saves time and allows for a better understanding of treatment.
Postural correction is a major emphasis at Dawson Chiropractic utilizing the most specialized chiropractic techniques as well as supporting Egoscues postural exercise methods or knowledgeable personal trainers and physical therapists.
